Visit by Senior Parliamentary Secretary Ms Sim Ann, 24 Apr 2012

It was a great honour to have Ms Sim Ann (Senior Parliament Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Law), MP of Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, and Mr Lim Biow Chuan, MP of Mountbatten and ACMI Committee Members visit us on 24 April 2012. We spent an evening dining and playing games. We also enjoyed a drumming session performed by people who are currently seeking help at our center. This music therapy was devised by the late Mr Stephen Goh. We therefore dedicate this performance to him. Testimonies were then shared by our co-workers, who not only overcame their financial and loansharks problems but are also currently helping out those in need at the center. We thank Ms Sim Ann, Mr Lim Biow Chuan and ACMI Committee Members, for making this visit to The Silver Lining Community Services. Their presences were a big form of encouragement to us all.
"You Harass, We Arrest" Community Performance, 3 Mar 2012

100 residents and grassroots leaders in the Clementi and Bukit Timah area banded together to form "Bukit Timah United", a residents' watch group against loanshark harassment. The initiative was launched on 03/03/2012 at which Holland-Bukit Timah GRC MP Sim Ann was the guest of honour. The Silver Lining Community Services also received an award that day for it's support and contribution to the cause. This event was jointly organised by the Bukit Timah Citizens' Consultative Committee, the Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre, and the residents' committees of Toh Yi Drive and Bukit Timah Zones 4 and 5.
Music Therapy to kick the habit

A unique music therapy, devised by the late Mr Stephen Goh to help gamblers manage their gambling addiction, will be a new addition to our weekly session. Mr Stephen Goh, an established drummer of 60 years, had hoped to train up 50 drummers and at the same time, help them quit gambling. He hoped that through this music therapy, gamblers can realize playing drums can be so much more exciting and beautiful than gambling. Mr Stephen Goh, went home to be with the Lord on 18 Apr 2012. His passion for problem gambling, despite his cancer condition then, will be an inspiration to us all.
